Gigi Twist, a mom and former school teacher, was trying to avoid foods with artificial non organic ingredients or preservatives for health reasons, which meant she spent a lot of time reading labels at the grocery store and was frustrated by what she found. The long lists of unpronounceable ingredients in
most foods labeled “all natural” or “healthy” discouraged her.

So, she took matters into her own hands. Her family owned restaurants in a small delta community in her native Eastern Arkansas for 60 years, so she didn’t hesitate to head into the kitchen to create her own satisfying low fat organic granola breakfast or snack with 7 simple, high-quality  vegan ingredients.  Having married into a family whose farming history goes back 5 generations, Twist brought her respect for the land and love of great organic food into the vegan low fat granola recipes she tried.

She perfected her low fat recipe with trusted organic ingredients from farm families just like theirs… 100% whole grain oats, golden flaxseed from a 7th generation family farm in North Dakota, and 100% pure maple syrup from a 7th generation family farm in New England. The result was a vegan low fat granola snack that drew rave reviews from friends and family.

People began asking for more and encouraged her to start selling the organic granola commercially.  That led Twist to found Upfront Foods® with the love and support of her husband, Eddie, and the passion that she had could make a difference.

She started with 4:00am wake-up calls to Farmer’s Markets every weekend and selling on amazon.com for nearly 2 years, while amassing a tremendous following and receiving only positive reviews for the “first ever” loose vegan low fat granola in a grab and go pouch.

But for Twist it’s not just about organic granola, it’s about making simple, CLEAN, Non-GMO Project Verified, vegan, 100% Whole Grain food affordable for everyone.

Twist also pioneered the concept of listing ingredients on the front of the package, which inspired the name Upfront Foods. Their packaging also reflects the new "Facts Up Front" Labeling System!

She now runs the company with her daughter, Kaki Twist Burgess.
